Wherever you are based in the UK, you are sure to find great walking trails - from sedate countryside walks to the more challenging winter hikes on hills. Walking is a great way to take in the crisp & fresh air while also appreciating the winter scenery.
One of our favourite places for local walks are the Bumble Hole and Warrens Hall Nature Reserves. Located close to our home in Dudley, it is a great area for leisurely walks along the quiet canal pathways and the surrounding green spaces.
The Bumble Hole walk which is a 2.5 miles walk is a fab way to explore this part of Dudley. We begin at the Windmill End Junction (near the Warrens Hall Country Park) and continue along the canal path all the way to Brewin's Tunnel. Along the walking route, the points of interest include Cobb's Engine House, the Netherton Tunnel, Bumble Hole Lake, Harris' Boatyard, the Site of Withymoor Goods Station, the site of Noah Hingley’s Iron Works and more. It is an interesting trail and every time we walk the route, we encounter something new.
These local walks are the highlights of the cold, grey months for us. The fresh air, the winter scenery, the wildlife, the golden glow of low sunlight and new views - winter walks are fun. Don't let the cold weather put you off; do head out to explore your local area if you can.
And if you are kitted out well, you can stay outdoors for long and be able to withstand the cold for longer.
For our recent walks we got some fab clothes from Cotton Traders. Not only did these keep us warm but added a pop of colour to our walking outfits! Take a look.
Mr.H is wearing a Crew Neck Mock Shirt Jumper and the Shetland Jacket, both from Cotton Traders.
The Mock Shirt Jumper in mustard colour is ideal for an effortless layered look. It features a neat button-down collar and functional button-fastening placket; whilst the soft knitted crew neck jumper is designed with long sleeves and shape-saving stretch rib to the neck, hem and cuffs. And the colour is delish; an easy way to light up dull and dark outfits, especially in the colder months.
The Shetland Jacket is made from prewashed cotton with a wax-look finish and has padding for extra warmth. It has cosy sherpa lining on the upper half with a check cotton lining in the lower half plus a deep stand collar for extra insulation, and a zip-through front covered with a concealed popper fastening storm flap to trap in any heat. The jacket is a great combination of style, comfort and practicality and is ideal for winter walks.
Mr.H also likes the fact that the jacket has a number of pockets with popper fastenings to the outer and an extra inner pocket to keep valuables safe.
The combination of the Crew Neck Mock Shirt Jumper and the Shetland Jacket is fab. The green of the jacket adds a luxurious feel to the outfit while the mustard yellow of the jumper serves to brighten it up without looking out of season.
I wanted a winter outfit that not only brought a touch of warmth but also looked chic at the same time. So, I picked the Coming-Up-Roses Jacquard Floral Jumper and Padded Hooded Coat from Cotton Traders.
The jumper has a luxe, jacquard-knit floral pattern all over giving it a gorgeous texture. It is soft and comfortable with added stretch for comfort. The pink roses on the warm beige background are perfect to brighten up any grey days. And when teamed with the Bordeaux coloured Padded Hooded Coat it adds a touch of sophistication to the entire outfit.
The darkness of the bordeaux coat contrasts with the lightness of the warm beige jumper to add warmth and richness to the overall look. I think it is a great combo for winter walks; one that adds freshness and life to the gloomy weather. And most importantly I love how cosy and warm it keeps me.
