In today's post, I will be talking about CBD topical creams; more specifically 2 fab CBD creams from Medterra. Medterra is a CBD company based in Irvine, California. The company was founded in 2017 and claims to place a premium on providing customers with high quality, pure, potent and safe products. Before I talk about the two products, let me share some details about the brand. Medterra processes all of their products in a facility that follows current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Their facility receives regular audits from the FDA and their operations and supply chain specialist also audits suppliers to ensure cGMP standards.

There are 4 products in their topical creams range of which I have used two - Pain Relief CBD Cream and Rapid Cooling CBD Cream.
Pain Relief CBD Cream
This cream available in two strengths - 500mg and 1,000mg - is an over-the-counter solution for arthritis and joint pain, according to Medterra. As its key ingredients, in addition to CBD, the cream contains Arnica Montana and Menthol. Arnica is known for its anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties while Menthol is also used as topical analgesic to relieve cramps, sprains and minor aches & pains.
I was keen to test this product as it is specifically for arthritis and joint pain. Having being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis many years back (significantly under control now, with occasional minor flares) I am always open to trying out topical products that can help with joint pain.
The first thing that you notice when you apply this cream is the fresh minty fragrance of the cream. Not surprising since it contains Menthol. The cream has a easy-to-rub-in texture and gets absorbed into the skin without leaving any residue. The cream is free of plasticizers, artificial preservatives, and synthetics.
In addition to the 3 key ingredients mentioned earlier, the cream also contains Aloe leaf juice, Shea butter, Coconut oil, Sunflower extract, Peppermint extract, Rice bran extract, Rosemary leaf extract and Jojoba seed oil. As you can work in the cream onto the affected area you slowly start feeling a tingling sensation. This feeling along with the massage as you rub the product in helps relax the muscles/joints and increases circulation in the area.
While, luckily, I did not have any flares of RA in recent times, I have used this cream (500mg strength) after hikes/walks and it has helped manage muscle soreness and minor joint aches.
Rapid Cooling CBD Cream
Similar to the Pain Relief CBD Cream, this one is also a powerhouse combination of CBD and organic ingredients, including menthol and arnica. With a rapid cooling effect, the cream is perfect for joint and muscle support.
Some of the key ingredients in this cream are Sunflower seed oil, Grape seed extract, Aloe leaf juice, Safflower seed oil, Menthol, Olive fruit oil, Basil leaf oil, Bergamot fruit oil, Arnica extract, Tea tree oil, Ginger root oil, Lemon peel oil, Lime peel oil, Orange peel oil and Rosemary Leaf extract. CBD is either 250mg or 750mg in strength.
On application, it is cooling like the other cream but this one has a more herbal fragrance in my opinion. Menthol fragrance is not dominating. After application, their is a tingling sensation as the cream begins to work. I also felt a slight warming feeling internally after a while, which I think is because of Ginger root oil as it is known to have a warming effect on sore muscles, which also helps relieve pain. With many other ingredients known for their anti-inflammatory properties, this cream is great for joint and muscle support. I have mainly used it for lower back aches and it has worked well.
For mild to moderate pain of any kind, I avoid taking pain killers orally and prefer topical applications and they are good at managing it. These two creams from Medterra have been great finds; especially the Pain Relief CBD Cream which I am keen to try out in the stronger strength.
