We were first introduced to Gtech in 2016 and have since then tried a couple of their offerings and love their products. Gtech was started by Nick Grey in 2001, with an aim to create easy to use products that enhance everyday life. And they have done wonderfully well on that front. They have a fab range of products today - vacuum cleaners to lawnmowers and e-bikes to grass trimmers.
Their Gtech MYO Touch (an at home massager) is a favourite of both myself and Mr.H. A fab product that has been designed to help you relax and unwind and enjoy a good massage from the comfort of your home.
On the blog today, is yet another wonderful product from Gtech - the HyLite upright vacuum cleaner. Gtech believe that it is the smallest, most compact high performance vacuum cleaner in the world. So, let's take a look at it.
What's in the box
- the main unit (which has a bag pre-installed)
- the steering unit
- a telescopic handle
- a removable battery
- 3 bags
- a charger unit
- and a very handy hair removal tool that helps clean the main unit
Designed for easy usage and with minimal maintenance in mind, the Gtech HyLite is simple to assemble, has a compact design and is very easy to handle. Weighing just 1.5kg and with a 20 minute runtime (on a 2 hour charge), the vacuum cleaner is ideal for quick clean-ups or for small sized flats/apartments.
It can be dis-assembled into the small individual parts and can be stored easily in a drawer or a bag; so it's great for those who have limited storage space at home. Even with its compact and small size, it offers good performance.
The main aspect that we loved about the HyLite is its compact, lightweight and modular design. With the handle attached it works as a standard upright vacuum cleaner and when you remove the handle, it goes into the hand-held mode which is ideal for vacuuming the upholstery or furniture. Without the handle, it is easy to get into hard to reach or awkward spots that you may otherwise have trouble vacuuming.
The lightweight design is also great for the elderly or those who have arthritic joints and may find it difficult to handle/lift heavier vacuum models.
The HyLite comes with a 14.4V Lithium-ion battery which is fitted into the main unit and can be charged on or off the main vacuum unit. It takes around 2 hours to charge completely, offering a 20-minute runtime which is enough for a quick cleanup. Also note that the runtime can vary depending on the surfaces that you are cleaning.
If the charging time can be reduced in future models, that would be a good advantage, we feel.
This was the first time we have used a bagged vacuum and we were pleased with the performance. Because there is no vacuum bin and no filter (just a bag that acts as a filter & bin), the mess of cleaning the filter or of emptying the bin (as in the case of a bagless model) is not present. While this may not seem like a big thing, it is especially important to those with asthma or allergies. Additionally, these bags are environmentally friendly and a pack of 15 HyLite Bags costs just £12.99 and will last for more than a year.
The bagged technology along with the HyLite's low and smart power usage means it’s a great vacuum cleaner for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
In Conclusion
We loved the Gtech HyLite. If you’re looking for a vacuum cleaner that is compact, lightweight and suited for quick, everyday cleaning, then the Gtech HyLite is a great choice.
Our favourite features of the Gtech HyLite are:

- Suction power is good in relation to its size
- No dirty filters to clean or replace
