Living with long-term inflammatory conditions can be very tough at times. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis a few years back. I have been on medication since then to manage joint inflammation and pain. In addition to the prescribed medication, I also resort to other things like physiotherapy, massage treatments and other alternative treatments for managing my symptoms. I had been reading a number of articles that detailed convincing evidence on the use of turmeric supplements in managing inflammation and joint pain.
Turmeric with it's vibrant colour and unique taste is a spice that I am familiar with as we use it extensively in our (Indian) cuisine. I was aware of its use in Ayurveda - it is mainly used for supporting the blood, joints, immune system and the digestive tract. I had never taken turmeric supplements though. That changed recently when I tried out Bioglan's Active Curcumin which is a high strength turmeric supplement.
According to the makers
Bioglan Active Curcumin is a high strength standardised formulation containing 95% curcuminoids, the effective compounds within the plant, for maximum benefit compared to standard Turmeric products. It also contains a trademarked black pepper extract called BioPerine™ to enhance the absorption of Curcumin by the body to help manage inflammation.
The key ingredients and benefits the supplements offer are
- Curcumin - management of inflammatory responses in the body
- Copper - maintenance of normal connective tissues
- Vitamin C - normal functioning of the immune system
- Vitamin D - maintenance of normal bones
- BioPerine - helps with increased absorption of Curcumin in the body
I have been taking these tablets for a few weeks now and I have noticed that my joints feel nicer than they normally do. I have had more of good days than bad ones and the joint pain and swelling are down from my usual levels. I haven't noticed any side effects in particular. The only thing I give a minus point for is the tablet size :) it's large! Other than that the supplement has worked well for me.
A pack of 30 tablets can be ordered from here.
Note: Please consult your GP/doctor before taking any supplements (including this one) more so if you have been prescribed any other mediation.
