Have you ever come out of a shopping mall or theatre and thought "where is my car?". It has happened to me many a times. I always end up spending some time looking around for the car. While I eventually find the car, it does cause a moment of panic when I realise that I am having trouble locating it. This mostly happens when we are parking in a new/unfamiliar area. It also happens a lot in parking lots even though we explicitly try to remember where we had parked. But after spending a good few hours either shopping or watching a movie, when we return to the lot, it is the same story. We end up wandering up and down the parking lot to locate the car.
Gigaset recently sent me a G-tag. According to Gigaset
This sounded like a brilliant idea, something that I could put to use. The G-tag is a small object that looks like a key fob and uses Bluetooth technology to track down important items such as handbags, wallets or even your car by electronically syncing to a smartphone app. Setting up the G-tag was very easy. Download the app and pair it with the G-tag device. I first tested it indoors, by attaching the G-tag to a bunch of keys and left it in the bedroom. To locate the keys, I used the app. When you press the locate button it will let you know how close you are to the tagged item. You need to be in the range of 30 metres though. It did help locate the keys. I had placed them on the side table and this made it easier to locate them visually when in range. But if the keys were under a blanket or in a trinket box, then I think it might be a bit difficult as you would still have to do some searching when you are in range. It would have been nice if the G-tag device came with a small light that flashed when you were in close proximity of the unit. An auditory signal could also be useful.
It works well in locating the car though. The G-tag now stays permanently in our car. When I see an ocean of cars at the parking lot, I no longer worry. The G-tag app works like a mini radar indicating when the car is in range. The app on the phone/IPad (as may be the case) bleeps when you are close to the object you are trying to locate, in this case - when we get closer to the car. It is a handy device which directs me to our parked car. Perfect.

G-tag searches for and finds lost or misplaced items. It gives off an alarm as soon as an item moves outside of the range of the Bluetooth connection and also helps people find their parked cars. G-tag can even utilise GPS to locate things that are outside of its range.
