Korean cosmetics and skin care products are a hot topic of discussion. Right from the time the BB cream was introduced to the impressive range of skin cleansers, toners, moisturisers and face packs that keep coming out of the Korean beauty market, everyone wants to try Korean beauty products - mainly to achieve the glowing, fresh-look that the Korean ladies are known for. Now, you already know about my love for face masks. It is one of the favourite products in my skincare regime. So when I came across Skin18, who stock Korean skin care products, I was a happy bunny. Founder of Skin18, Eugenie Shek, says that all the products on their website use pristine quality ingredients like Aloe Vera, bamboo sap, red ginseng, green tea, cucumber, berries and honey to name a few. The Skin18 team have done their level best to source and bring to you the very best in Korean beauty products. If you are looking for Korean skincare products, then Skin18 is the place for you.
I was sent some face masks from Skin18 a while back. Included in the package I was sent were the following:
I loved the cute packaging of the Four Season masks. How lovely are they! The illustrations, the colours used - everything won me over. There were three masks from the Four Season range. I have tried all the three and here are my views on them.
First up, the Collagen Lifting Wrinkle Care Intensive Mask. It contains Sodium Hyaluronate (which is used for its hydrating properties), hydrolysed collagen, Witch Hazel Extract (used for its calming and soothing effect), Green tea extract (used for its astringent effect and for promoting blood circulation) and Adenosine as some of the key ingredients. Adenosine is used in skincare products due to its anti-ageing properties. It is said to repair damaged skin, improve skin's smoothness and also has shown to reduce wrinkles. I applied the mask as one would apply any sheet mask. The size was good enough and fit my entire face. There was a lot of serum in the packet and the fragrance was very mild. I actually liked the scent - it was very delicate and kind of fresh. I let the mask stay for half an hour after which I removed it and massaged the remaining serum on the face and neck. The results were very good. Skin smoothness had improved and I particularly felt that the area around my eyes appeared a bit more firmer and hydrated then normal. The mask did not irritate my skin and the effects lasted for a good two days. Highly recommended as a pre-party mask.
Next I tried the Multi Vita Brightening Active Mask. This one is a brightening mask that contains highly concentrated multi-vitamin essence that helps to brighten and vitalise tired and dull skin. One of the key ingredients is Niacinamide which is said to act on the enzyme tyrosinase which in turn reduces the creation of melanin, to improve dullness and soften rough skin. Apart from Niacinamide, the mask contains Vitamin B5, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Green tea extract and Witch hazel extract. The mask has a lovely, mildly citrusy scent. It smells very fresh and pleasant. Although this mask is from the same brand as the one above, it was slightly different as in the mask did not cover my entire nose, which was weird. The mask was also on the thinner side but was well saturated with serum and there was lots of it left in the pack even after applying the mask. In terms of effectiveness, it moisturised my skin excellently leaving it soft and plump. I think one will need to use it regularly to see the brightening effect though. If you have dull skin and want to improve its texture and add some glow, then this mask will work well in the long term. Recommended as a weekly pamper treatment.
Apart from Sodium Hyaluronate, the Red Ginseng White Clean Active Mask contains Panax Ginseng Root Extract (known for its anti-ageing properties), Witch Hazel Extract and Niacinamide (known for its brightening and anti-ageing effects). When I opened the packet, the first thing to hit me was the fragrance. It was very strong and smelt like some herbal medicine. I have never smelt a face mask this strong and it was not something that I was drawn to. But I did apply the mask as I needed to test it. The mask was like any other sheet mask - folded and saturated with the serum. It covered my entire face except half of my nose just like the Multi Vita Brightening Active Mask. I also noticed that with time, the fragrance of the mask became milder and it was not as unpleasant as it was initially. I left the mask on for around half an hour and then removed it. Result wise - yes, it worked and very well at that. My face felt moisturised and so very soft. The mask contains alcohol and fragrance but did not irritate my skin neither did it cause any breakouts. Recommended if you are okay with a very strong herbal fragrance for a while.
All the masks from Four Seasons are free from benzophenone, talc, mineral oil, Petrolatum, artificial dyes and SLS. You can check out the entire collection here: http://skin18.com/
