Summer is near, which means I can get my skirts, shorts and dresses out. Time to prep and flaunt the legs and feet :) And helping me get super smooth skin is Braun. Their latest release, the Braun Silk-épil 9-961 SkinSpa, has been designed for long-lasting, efficient and extra gentle hair removal.
Like their other epilator models, the Silk-épil 9-961 SkinSpa is also very intuitive and easy to use. If you have not used an epilator before, you can refer to the user manual that comes with the box for detailed description and operation method. But if you are familiar with epilators and/or have used a Braun epilator then this one is similar in design and as simple to use.

My experience with the Braun Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa
I have used Braun epilators in the past - the Xpressive Pro Wet & Dry to be precise. But the current model has to be the best offering from Braun. The main unit design is more or less similar to other models with the same kind of simple controls for adjusting the epilation speed. But the Silk-épil 9 scores over the older models because of the new innovative features:- 40% wider head: This ensures that more hair is captured and removed in each stroke resulting in faster epilation and thus saving time.
- Micro Grip Tweezer Technology: The presence of longer and deeper tweezer means that even the shortest of hair(0.5mm) is removed leaving skin smooth for weeks.
- Curved design: allows for closer skin contact and adapts to body contours.
The epilator is waterproof and has been designed to work for both wet and dry usage. However if you are using the shaver head attachment then you should use it only on dry skin. I have tried both dry and wet epilation and I prefer the former because I find that more comfortable. The epilator takes around an hour to charge completely and then provides 30-40 minutes of cordless operation. Another point that I would like to mention here is the operation time depends on the type of usage. For wet usage the operation time reduces a little.
Now moving on to the body exfoliation brush that is included in the box. It is a high-density brush with around 10,000 fine bristles that help to remove dead skin cells. The brush uses Sonic technology i.e. more than 3000 micro-vibrations per minute to exfoliate the skin, leaving the skin renewed and smoother. It also helps to tackle the problem of ingrown hair. This is a body brush, so do not use it on the face.
The facial cap is to be used when you are removing hair from the face or other sensitive areas. Although I have been using epilators for around 7-8 years now, I still abstain from using them on the upper lip area. But given how relatively painless I found the Silk-épil 9-961 while using it on my legs, I fitted the facial cap attachment on the epilation head and used it on my chin. It was quite painless! There was a little reddening of the skin but very little pain. The redness also quickly disappeared.
When used on the legs, the epilation was really good. Very low pain, slight redness post-epilation and even tiny hair were removed. I would attribute these to the new wider epilating head, the micro-grip technology and also to the fact that I epilate my legs regularly and that has resulted in diminished sensation of pain.
Epilatory gadgets have come a long way since they were first introduced. The Braun Silk-épil 9-961 SkinSpa is a very well balanced and efficient epilator. In my opinion it takes epilation to a new level. The epilator comes with a lot of attachments, uses advanced technology and is suitable for both wet and dry usage. It scores well in terms of design, functionality and quality. But with a brand like Braun, I would not expect anything less! Well done, Braun!
