I love soaps and I also harbour the idea of making my own soaps some day! The thought of creating a new thing with a range of natural ingredients is very enticing, isn't it? I have not made any kind of foray into soap making yet other than reading a lot about it on the internet :) Hopefully, some day I will take the plunge. Apart from my love for making my own soaps, I also love trying out new soaps. A while back the Gentleman's Gift Set from The Dartmoor Soap Company made its way to us. For those of you who haven't heard of them, The Dartmoor Soap Company make beautiful, natural soaps using the traditional cold-process method. Each of their soap is hand stirred, hand cut and individually decorated. Wherever possible they use locally sourced ingredients and their products are free from chemical irritants such as SLS, parabens, petrolatum and artificial colours and palm oil.
Upon receipt of the Gentleman's Gift Set, I handed it over to Mr.H who quite liked the simple packaging. There are two soaps included in the gift set - one Gentleman's Bar and one Dartmoor Ale Soap. The Gentleman's Bar has peppermint & lemon essential oils and pumice for extra strength whereas the Ale Soap, as the name indicates, is a beer bathing bar. As with all handmade soaps, both the soaps were a bit irregularly shaped and the edges had crumbled a little. The Dartmoor Ale soap has a creamy colour and looked like a big piece of fudge :) The fragrance was lovely - subtle and natural. The Gentleman's Bar had a little stronger scent due to the presence of peppermint & lemon essential oils. Both the soaps lather decently and leave you feeling clean - in fact 'squeaky' clean - without any soapy residue or dryness. Mr.H has dry skin and both these soaps were quite gentle as per him. They did not leave his skin drier than they were or feeling tight. The only minor gripe he had was the slightly crumbly edges of the soap. But this issue in no way takes away from the overall positives of the soaps. As such, both the soaps get a 'thumbs-up' from DB Reviews.
