If you have been following my blog for long, you will know that while I have never had acne problems, the same cannot be said about my spouse. He has been battling acne for decades. What started in his teens has still not changed and just to give you an idea of the time frame, he is now on the brink of 40s. So, whenever there is a product or supplement that claims to combat or reduce acne then Mr.H is ready to try it. We recently came across MEN help: clear skin, a supplement with lactoferrin, which has been clinically proven as a natural way to help reduce blemishes. Mr.H has been trialling the programme for the past 6 weeks and decided to share his experience with you.
MEN help: clear skin is one of the offerings from Works with Water Nutraceuticals. MEN help: clear skin contains PravENAC™ and according to their website, "PravENAC™ is a proprietary food supplement specifically formulated to help improve skin. It contains active ingredients like lactoferrin, aloe vera and zinc gluconate which provide antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to achieve and maintain normal skin."
The main reason why Mr.H agreed for this trial is because MEN help: clear skin is not a topical treatment. He was fed up of topical applications that make tall claims but offer no real results. Trust me, even I would detest topical applications if I had been battling acne for so long and had to apply lotions and medicated gels religiously everyday. MEN help: clear skin is a skin supplement in powder form that you need to take once a day. The product scores a point for being easy to use.
The product box includes 28 sachets containing 3.5gms of the supplement each. You need to consume 1 sachet daily for at least 4-6 weeks. All you need to do is add 1 sachet to at least 250ml of hot or cold, non-carbonated drink or soft food. You can add it to soup, smoothie or any of your favourite food. Mr.H preferred it with a glass of water though. The powder is almost tasteless and imparts a pale orange colour to water. There is no discernible taste, so even if you have sensitive taste buds, you can still have it with plain water. You just need to make sure that you mix it well as sometimes the powder tends to lump together.
The powder contains Oligofructose(soluble fibre), Lactoferrin(bioactive milk protein), High extract aloe vera and Zinc gluconate. Yes, just 4 ingredients. So, how does it work? According to Works With Water, "Lactoferrin works in two ways. Firstly it inhibits the growth of propionibacterium which is present on most people’s skin and responsible for blemishes, thereby lessening the number of new skin irritants forming. Secondly its anti-inflammatory properties mean that the size of blemishes is reduced and the blemishes health quicker, resulting in a smoother complexion."
Now comes the most important question - Does it work? In the 6 weeks that Mr.H has tried this, we have noticed that the prominent acne scars have reduced in intensity. i.e. the scars have become lighter, which is good. There has been not much difference on the (open)pore size and the product has not totally got rid of the acne. But the skin does look smoother and maybe a little more even toned than earlier. Mr.H is pleased with the results.
What we feel is that if you have a mild form of acne, then this supplement might show better results than it did in case of Mr.H. It does improve the skin's texture and all this from the inside without having to apply topical creams etc. So, if you are battling acne or other skin blemishes, you could give the products from Works With Water a try.
Plus points:
- No artificial colours or flavours
- No topical application needed
- Suitable for vegetarians
- Free from gluten
- Suitable for diabetics
- Easy to use
A 28 sachet pack of MEN help: clear skin costs £39.95 and can be picked up here.
