If you follow DB Reviews regularly then you will be familiar with my love for natural based skincare products. On my never ending quest for such products, I recently discovered Nim-Véda. Nim-Véda is an Australian brand that offers personal body and hair care products. The key ingredient in their products is 'Neem' (Azadirachta indica) which is a plant native to the Indian subcontinent but grows well even in the tropical areas in Australia. For ages Neem has been used in Ayurvedic medicines - to detoxify blood, improve the skins condition and for healthy hair. The name Nim-Véda is derived from 'Neem' and 'Ayurveda'. To sum it up, Nim-Véda combines the ancient traditional properties of Neem with scientific knowledge to bring to you a range of high quality affordable organic products.
The Nim-Véda team had very kindly sent me some samples of their products a few weeks back. I received travel sizes of Nim-Véda's shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and the Neem soap. Having used all the products for a few weeks, I felt it was time to share my views with you.
Nim-Véda Neem Shampoo 500ml AUD 15.40, Nim-Véda Neem Conditioner 300ml AUD 9.10
Nim-Véda Neem Soap 150g AUD 4.00, Nim-Véda Shower Gel 300ml AUD 14.30
Nim-Véda Body Lotion 300ml AUD 13.70
Nim-Véda Neem Soap 150g AUD 4.00, Nim-Véda Shower Gel 300ml AUD 14.30
Nim-Véda Body Lotion 300ml AUD 13.70
My take: The shampoo is excellent for daily use. It is gentle on the scalp, lathers well and smells nice too. It leaves my hair manageable and soft. Used in conjunction with the conditioner it works even better. Though it is not marketed as a dandruff shampoo, I did notice that it took care of the mild itchy scalp that I had. Definitely the Neem Oil at work. Overall, the shampoo and conditioner leave the scalp and hair clean without stripping it off natural oils. Neem is great for the scalp, so both these products get the thumbs up from me.
The Nim-Véda Australia Neem Soap claims to be rich in fatty acids that build collagen while also maintaining the skin’s natural elasticity. Though I cannot comment on its collagen building properties I did like the soap because it did not dry my skin out. And like I mentioned earlier Neem is very good for the skin due to its antiseptic and antifungal properties. The soap lathers well, cleanses well and does not leave the skin dry. For those of you who are not familiar with Neems fragrance, it smells very strong and bitter. Most Neem based products try to mask that fragrance because majority of the people do not like that smell. I have a slightly different stance on the fragrance. I love the somewhat bitter fragrance. The soap from Nim-Véda doesn't smell strong/bitter and most of you would like it because it smells fresh and herbal. Personally I wish the soap had a more distinct Neem fragrance - a wee bit stronger would have done the trick for me. But then again that's just my personal preference and does not take anything away from the soaps effectiveness.
The Nim-Véda Australia Shower Gel contains soothing oils that cleanse the skin without dehydrating the body. The shower gel is not as thick as other shower gels I have tried. It lathers well when used with a loofah and leaves the body feeling refreshed, silky and soft. One of the key properties of Neem is that it is antibacterial and antifungal, so using it in a bath product is a good idea. The scent is pleasant and lingers on the skin for sometime which I like.
And last but definitely not the least is my favourite product of the lot that I tried - the Nim-Véda Australia Body Lotion. The lotion is pale cream in colour and not very thick and gets absorbed very easily. I know that it is a Neem Body Lotion but to me the predominant fragrance is Brahmi. I have used Brahmi oil in the past and this lotion reminds me of that fragrance. Not that I have any complaints. I love the smell. If you have used any traditional Ayurvedic products you will relate to all these fragrances. The makers claim that the lotion prevents fine lines from forming and in tightening pores. I have not used it long enough to test these claims but the lotion is definitely hydrating and this I tested with my HydraTest :)
The Nim-Véda range is free from:
