I love food and I love surprises. So, I can say I have been very lucky to get the chance to review Degustabox subscription boxes over the past couple of months. Degustabox is a food subscription box that costs £12.99 including delivery. You need to pay before the 10th of each month and your box will be with you before the end of the same month. The team at Degustabox selects and packs around 10-15 products in your box each month. The products are carefully selected ensuring there is a nice blend of products and you can be assured that the price you pay for the box will always be less than the total value of the products sent to you. There is no contract involved in the subscription, so no hassles on that front. Degustabox have kindly offered a discount coupon code for the readers of DB Reviews. This code gives you a £3.00 discount when registering on Degustabox's website. The code is PZCE6.
Ok, so what was in the May Degustabox? Here is what I received this time around.
- 2 x Hornsby’s Cider – RRP £2.50 for 2
- 1 x Cawston Press Cloudy Apple – RRP £1.00
- 1 x Taylors of Harrogate Blackberry & Elderflower Tea – RRP £2.99
- 2 x Packs of Raw Sugar Free Chewing Gum – RRP 99p each (£1.98)
- 1 x Elizabeth Shaw Dark Chocolate Flutes – RRP £2.59
- 1 x Garofalo Pasta – RRP £1.89
- 1 x Cirio La Classica Passata – RRP £1.35
- 1 x Cirio Double Concentrated Tomato Puree – RRP £1.10
- 1 x Kettle Sweet Potato Chips – RRP £2.49
- 1 x On The Go Lizi’s Granola – RRP £1.29
- 1 x Dr Oetker Cake Release Spray – RRP £2.28
If you add up all the prices above it works out to £21.46, which gives you a massive savings when compared to the box price of £12.99. An excellent deal. There were four drink items in this months box and I liked that. In the April Degustabox I had received Cawston Press and so was aware of this brand. This time round we got the Cloudy Apple variant and it was good. There was also a pack of Blackberry & Elderflower Tea from Taylors of Harrogate which was very happily picked up by Mr. H. He is a massive tea lover/drinker and so was quite pleased with this item. What I liked the most from the drinks category were the 2 bottles of Hornsby's cider. I immediately put these into the refrigerator for chilling and we had these in the evening. Loved both the flavours. Definitely a repurchase.
There were 3 items which went into my kitchen cupboard - Garofalo Pasta, Cirio La Classica Passata and Cirio Double Concentrated Tomato Puree. I have not used any of these brands earlier so I did a little research about them on the internet. Garofalo have been in the pasta making business since late 1700s and are known for their quality and variety. Excellent. This shows that the Degustabox team makes a lot of effort in finding good quality products to add to the box every month. I plan to make a veggie pasta this week using these products. Will post a recipe when I do it.
The Raw Sugar Free Chewing Gum and Elizabeth Shaw Dark Chocolate Flutes were my second favourite lot after Hornsby's. Looking at the packaging I had assumed that the Raw gum would have a very strong minty flavour, but surprisingly it was a mild tasting gum. Nonetheless I liked it. I have not tried anything from the Elizabeth Shaw brand earlier, so I am excited to try these chocolate flutes. We received the Cocoa Crunch Flutes. There are many other variants as well like - Cappuccino flutes, Mint flutes, Amaretto flutes and Orange flutes. This also looks like it would be a repurchase in our household.
Coming to the last 3 products - Kettles Sweet Potato Chips, Dr Oetker Cake Release Spray and Lizi's Granola. While the latter two will be used up, the Kettle Sweet Potato Chips found no takers. Neither me not Mr.H liked the chips. I like the Kettle brand and we buy a lot of their products but this Sweet Potato Chip let us down in terms of flavour and texture. We felt it was too dry and not seasoned enough.
Overall, the May box was a good one with a nice mix of products. I liked the fact that there was something for everyone and that the products included were well distributed between drinks, snacks and cooking items. What do you think of the May Degustabox? Do leave your comments below.
