Dr. Bronner's is a name that is synonymous with eco-friendly and natural products. Their liquid and bar soaps have been known for their unsurpassed high quality. I have earlier reviewed Dr. Bronner's lip balms on the blog and today I bring to you Dr. Bronner's Shaving Gel.
This unisex shaving gel from Dr Bronner's has its share of good and not-so-good features. Lets talk about the good points first. It smells great, lathers well and works well. Mr.H has a stiff beard and this one gives a decent shave with no nicks or cuts. Mr.H liked the fact that the fragrance is not artificial and the gel leaves his face smooth and soft post shave. He also liked that the gel is made of environmentally friendly ingredients. The shaving gel contains organic Shikakai which comes from the seed pods of the South Asian tree Acadia Concinna. Shikakai has been used for ages in India as a gentle conditioning cleanser for both skin and hair. As one of the key ingredients in the shaving gel along with organic White Grape Juice and organic Coconut Oil, Shikakai helps to give a soothing and moisturising glide while shaving.
The only downside of this product is its appearance/texture. It is brownish and with a 'consistency' that is not 'consistent'. At times it comes out a bit clumpy while at times its a little on the runnier side. While it lathers well in both cases, this inconsistent texture makes it difficult to predict how hard to squeeze the tube :)
I have tried it as a shaving gel for my legs and it has been gentle and non-irritating. Although this tube of shaving gel(208ml, £7.29) is more expensive than your average shave gel can, a little goes a long way and thus the tube lasts longer. It ends up being good value to the price paid. And you also need to take into account that it does not contain PEG’s, parabens, SLS or SLES. The shaving gel is completely free from synthetic ingredients and is fair trade and certified organic.
If Spearmint Peppermint is not a fragrance you enjoy, then you can choose from the other options like Lemongrass Lime, Tea Tree, Lavender or Baby Unscented.
