A while back I had purchased some essential oils. I have been using them regularly since then and now is the perfect time to review one of them - Ylang Ylang.

Ylang Ylang is a very popular essential oil used in aromatherapy. Ylang Ylang belongs to the Custard Apple family and its greenish yellow flowers yield the fragrant essential oil. It has a deep flowery smell - with hints of Jasmine. The essential oil that I had purchased came in a small cobalt blue glass bottle. The quantity is 10ml and it was priced at £4.25.

Uses and Benefits:
Ylang Ylang Essential oil has many varied uses. I have listed some that I am aware of
- Reduces anxiety and depression
- Helps in clearing skin conditions like acne, oil skin etc
- Calms and relaxes
- Considered to be an aphrodisiac
- It is said to balance secretion of sebum (so it works for dry as well as oily skin)
- It is used to aid in hair growth on the scalp
- Use it in the bath. Add a few drops to your bath to unwind and relax

How to use?
Most essential oils should not be applied directly to the skin. It needs to be mixed with a carrier oil or a cream prior to application. Or you could use it in a diffuser or inhale directly(but be careful). I normally mix 2-3 drops of the essential oil in my facial cream/ body moisturiser and apply it.

I also have added a few drops into the Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil Bottle. Shake it well and use it before spraying. It smells so pleasant. Love it. There are many ways you can use the essential oil.

PS: A little bit of trivia on Ylang Ylang - It seems Indonesians cover the bed of newly married couples with Ylang Ylang flowers ;-)
